A valley of green olive trees, fig trees, almond trees, tamarisks, Aleppo’s pines and Mediterranean plants which have been completed by a variety of sub-tropical species, due to the mildness of the climate and the under earth springs which ensure the ideal surrounding for their growth.

The line coast of about 6km of sandy and rocky beaches is the natural border between the crystal blue sea and the desert rocky hills, which enclose the valley, beaten by fierce winds which permit the only

growth of small resistant plants who fill the spring months with their colours and smells.

Starting from November the valley gets coloured by the purple, pink and white of the anemoni and in September white lilies fill the air of the coastal dunes with their fragrance. You will see a variety of features of plants belonging to the family of the Mediterranean bush, mostly unknown but with the common feature to be unbelievably resistant to the lack of rain and to the winds which blow strongly in

certain seasons.

A region of strong contrasts, dominated by a fierce and essential nature (as when the “Meltemi” wind blows strongly, full of the power gained on his way from the Dardanelli to here) often hostile (as when it does not rain for 7 consecutive months and the clouds seem to find, here in Xerocampos, the perfect spot to vanish and to die).

But with a mildness of climate (for most of the year) and a sea quality

which does not fear any antagonist in the Mediterranean coasts.

In Xerocampos you will find five restaurants, one snack-bar and a mini-market, no other shops, news stands, hotels, discos, pubs and fast cash are available in the valley.

The nearest doctor can be reached in Ziros at 25 minutes drive (in the military base), here you can find also a pharmacy, two gasoline stations and the bank with ATM. In the village of Zakros, at ten minutes drive, you will find also a pharmacy, a gasoline station, two small garages and two internet points with wireless connection.

The public hospital is in Sitia at about 50 minutes drive.

It is necessary therefore to bring with you enough cash and your usual medicines prior to access the valley.

Xerocambos is a simple place, rough and still a little “wild”, far away from the chaotic city life. Here the nights are still full of stars and peace.

To spend a week, two or a longer period here in Xerocambos, heals the mind and the body from the daily stress, getting advantage of the sun, the sea and of this nature so simple and so enchanting.
