Route starting from the coastal area of Xerocampos between the Bay of Amatou and the long beach called "Mazidà i Ammos" (also known as Megaliparalia).

Not marked on the ground, however, is easily identifiable and unfolds along a picturesque gorge up to rise to the village of Ziros on the eastern edge of the plateau Armeno-Handratico. A path that is still used nowadays for the transhumance of the flocks, requires a walking time of about three and a half hours.

From the point where it starts the "Xerocampos-Ziros" if you turn left into the dirt coastal road you will reach a path, also this is not marked, which leads to Agia Irini (a small uninhabited village overlooking a beautiful bay) while, again from the start point, if you take the direction to the right and follow the coast, returning to the paved road, you will reach after 3 km the center of the tiny village of Xerocampos, here starts the path to Kato Zakros.

Agia Irini is also reachable by a circular path by making a detour from the main track of "Xerocampos-Ziros".

At 4 km from the start of the path, past the narrowest first part of the gorge, you will come to a junction, that taken to the left will lead you first to the traditional semi-abandoned village of Chametoulo (800 meters) and then passed this, continuing for a short stretch of paved road (for other 800 meters) will take you to a dirt road, easily walkable, leading to the village of Agia Irini and further on to its pebble beach.

Another interesting detour from the path "Xerocampos-Ziros" is the one that you will find when you come to the highest point (700 meters high above sea level), here you will leave the dirt road to enter the last stretch of paved road, on the left you will see the abandoned village of Lamnoni and from there turning right, always on the paved road, you can reach in 3 km the highest viewpoint of the area, called "Mare", here you can enjoy a scenery on the Libyan Sea from the first islands of the Dodecanese (Kassos and Karpathos) to the north, up to the ones that mark the border of Crete to the East (Koufonissi).
