Sitia,

is located

on the north-east coast of Crete,

on the edge of a cape overlooking a nice bay

framed by the uninhabited Dionisiades Islands.

It’s a small town of about 10.000 inhabitants, with a prevailing modern architecture where most of the signs of the ancient town plans have been erased to support the development of buildings, which unfortunately do not differ from most of the places around the Mediterranean Sea.

Interesting places to be seen are the ruins of the Venetian fortress (Kazarma), the Orthodox Churches (always well kept), the walk on the harbour with it’s restaurants and bars (some traditional and some tourist) and the restoration of some old buildings on the stone alleys which take to the old town.

Sitia is at about one hour drive from Xerocampos (48 kilometres of asphalted road in direction Ziros) and here you will find the hospital, the chemists, the port and the airport (with flights to and from Athens), banks, supermarkets, craftsman shops, shops and all kind stores which make of Sitia a small but well equipped town and a reference point for all the region.

A good accommodation for a stay we think could be "Nereids".
