The ferry Sofia connects the port of Makrigialos

to the small archipelago of Koufonissi,

formed by four desert and still wild islands, with a sea of crystal colours and beautiful sandy beaches.

Located south-east of Crete,
in the stretch of sea known as
Libyan Sea,
is a place not yet discovered by mass tourism.

The Sofia hosts a maximum of 150 passengers and is equipped with toilets and a bar on deck.

The departure for Koufonissi is from its private pier in Makrigialos at 10 am with return at 17 hours in the afternoon; the navigation time is about an hour each way.

The frequency is not daily and is directly linked to the number of passengers who request it, if the number of applicants is insufficient boat Sofia does not start and the connection is provided by speedboat Aetos; more details and phone number for reservations may be requested by sending an

For the only area of Xerocampos, the ticket reservations can be made directly on the spot with the owners of the properties in the webpage " Holiday apartments " or at the "Tavern Akrogiali" and at the "Bar Dolphin".

The price of a ticket is 25 euros, children under 10 years of age receive a discount of 50% and infants  up to 3 years travel free.

With an additional 8 euros per person you can also have lunch on the island (beverages included).

The payment of the ticket and any supplement for lunch has to be made at the pier when boarding in cash, credit cards are not accepted and an identity document is requested.

The conduct of the trip to Koufonissi depends directly on the authorizations of the Coastal Guard of Ierapetra who is competent authority for granting navigation permits according to weather and sea conditions for this reason, if the sea conditions are unsuitable, the departure may be deleted with notice of one hour and a half.
