The area of Chochlakiès

includes a beautiful valley, nestled between the spurs of arid mountains,

the steep gorges that lead to a sandy stretch of coastline called Karoùmes

and a handful of old traditional houses aggregated around

the road leading from Palekastro to Zakros,

or scattered and immersed in the countryside mostly cultivated with olive trees.

Here tourism has still virtually not left its mark and the few visitors who pass through these places are here mainly just to walk to the coast.

Staying in Chochlakiès is practically impossible because there are no accommodation facilities, even the camper has no access to the tiny village ...... it will remain stuck in its too narrow alleys!

But this is a destination that is worth a trip, even if only for one day, if you have the desire to enjoy the simple atmosphere of one of the last unspoiled corners of Crete.

From Xerokampos is at about 25 minutes by car, direction Palekastro.
