Agathiās on the bay of Palekastro

Agathiās is a small peaceful village surrounded by olive trees and mainly composed by traditional Cretan houses which create an old times atmosphere and where you will find, as only concession to the tourist worldliness, a traditional restaurant, indeed good, the Taverna Vaios. The small inhabited centre is built around its typical Orthodox Church and is located at the base of first hills that surround the enchanting Bay of Palekastro, in a position that enjoys a pleasant panoramic view. Agathiās is about one kilometre far from Palekastro, a small but well equipped city and an appreciated tourist destination with tavernes, restaurants, kafenii, groceries, a gasoline station, a bank with automatic teller, a pharmacy and medical guard. About 800 mt. is the distance to reach the sea and the first and nearest large sandy beach of Chiona, with its crystalline waters and extraordinary colours and its two tavernes that offer fresh fish. Agathiās is also in good position to reach the beach of Kouremenos (a beautiful beach that is mostly attended and loved by windsurfers, since we should not forget, that these areas can be very windy and interested in the summer period by the traditional Greek Meltemi) and is also centrally located in order to organize daily trips and excursions to the beaches of Itanos, Vai, Maridati, Karoumes with the Gorge of Chochlakies, Kato Zakros and to the same Xerocampos that can be reached with about 45 minutes drive, direction Zakros. |
